Young children need to sleep! We learn in Positive Discipline that if children are hungry, angry, lonely or tired we must address those needs first before trying to teach, explain or discipline our children. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends 11-14 hours of total sleep (including naps) for children ages 1-2 and 10-13 hours of total sleep (including naps) for children ages 3-5. Of course, we can’t force our child to sleep and trying to do so only invites a power struggle. Try these two tips.
