Primavera Maravillosa

Consejos Para Padres ~ Parenting Tips
Young children thrive on routines and consistency. By using simple, instructive songs, or following a chart with simple sequencing, or both, you are helping your child to build lifelong healthy habits. Positive Discipline also teaches us that children need to feel belonging and significance. When we invite our child to participate in remembering the routine and taking responsibility and ownership about what comes next, we are helping our child to feel important and a part of our family.
Try to set routines for when you wake up in the morning, for leaving the house and for bedtime. Create family routines such as Sunday breakfasts or Thursday park play dates.

Our amigos love making moco/slime and plastilina/playdough. But have you heard of OOBLECK!?
"Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid; it has properties of both liquids and solids". So, it's not as sticky as slime, and more liquid than playdough.

Here is an oobleck recipe from LiveScience:

Oobleck ingredients
  • 1 part water
  • 1.5 to 2 parts cornstarch
  • Small amount of food coloring (optional)
Mix ingredients
  • Start with the water in a bowl (or wading pool!) and add the cornstarch a bit at a time.
  • Keep stirring until it has a gooey consistency. You may want to use your hands.
  • When the oobleck is just right, slowly add food coloring, if you want. This can be a challenge to get it mixed properly.
  • Play with it.
Things to do with oobleck
  • Grab a handful and squeeze it. Let it ooze through your fingers.
  • Make a puddle and quickly drag your fingers through it.
  • Put it into a plastic container and shake it or quickly bump it against a table.
  • Jab at the oobleck and then slowly let your finger sink in.
  • Roll some oobleck into a ball. It becomes solid, but when you stop moving it, it will melt back into your hand.

Watch the video below to see a cool video of OOBLECK dancing!

Los animales de la Granja

Consejos Para Padres ~ Parenting Tips

From birth, babies learn about the world and their surroundings with the support of loving parents and caregivers. When we respond to our baby’s cry, moan, or other sounds, we are building our bond, or attachment, with our child. A strong sense of attachment in early childhood has been linked to stronger emotional outcomes and better relationships in adulthood. It’s a good thing for your child to want to be with you! And it can be challenging when we want or need to take some time without our baby. The stress, commonly known as separation anxiety, can be difficult to manage for both adults and children.

Pájaros y Huevos

Consejos Para Padres ~ Parenting Tips
The benefits of bilingualism for children and adults continue to be proven in research with advantages ranging from cultural connections, enhanced cultural awareness, higher academic achievement scores, and reduced incidence of dementia and Alzheimer’s. You can introduce multiple languages to your child from an early age. Whether you practice the one-parent, one-language approach or the language location approach (speaking a specific language in specific locations, i.e. Spanish at home and English outside the home), it can help by building specific times into your schedule to speak the target language.

Caballitos

Consejos Para Padres ~ Parenting Tips
Invite your child from a young age to be involved in daily routines. When inviting your child to participate in regular chores, it becomes a ritual in its own right while also strengthening their significance in the family unit with meaningful contributions. Invite your child to help pick up their toys before transitioning to a new activity. Invite your child to help with laundry, with the sorting and organizing of pantalones y camisas or by helping during the dressing and toileting process. While your child is helping, you have an opportunity to talk about the clothes, the colors, the textures. This chore time can become a bonding time while also a time to build vocabulary.

Pelotas en Movimiento

Consejos Para Padres ~ Parenting Tips
We have learned from years of research that young children learn best through play. It is by exploring and interacting with objects, people, sounds, language, movement, and words that children learn about language and the world around them. Your child can learn the building blocks of literacy all through play. Here are some ideas to get you started.
● Sing and recite a wide variety of songs, poems, tongue twisters, etc. Encourage your child to recite and sing along with you. This rote memory helps to build sequencing skills and while oftentimes building vocabulary.

¿Cómo Nos Movemos?

Consejos Para Padres ~ Parenting Tips
It’s never early to start potty training! The idea that children shouldn’t start before they are “ready” has its foundations with “readiness” including being able to sit up independently and maintain neck control, typically by six months of age. Over the last five decades “readiness” has been misinterpreted in the U.S. to begin later and later, sometimes with advice including waiting for the child to make his own decision about when he is ready to be using the toilet independently. In many parts of the world today, and for many families in the U.S., children are regularly communicating with their parents or caregiver about their pee and poop (elimination) needs between 12-24 months.

Trasporte Terrestre

Consejos Para Padres ~ Parenting Tips
Healthy eating starts with us, as parents and caregivers, being aware of what we are buying, bringing into our homes, and serving our children. This article says, "As parents, we should focus on creating independent eaters: kids who have a healthy relationship with food, who can self-regulate sweets and who enjoy all kinds of foods without a parent persuading them to eat..." Another news article cites a study that shows how preschoolers who are restricted from eating certain foods, will typically overeat and binge that target food when parents are not around.

    Pasitos School

Pasitos is an eco-friendly, bilingual community based on learning and fun. Through a play based Reggio inspired curriculum, children gain the necessary literacy skills to make them successful in both Spanish and English.
